Word from The Well

Every action we take is seen by the unseen and heard by the unnoticed. Be it our children, family members, friends, coworkers, complete strangers or the Lord alone. Everything we do, say and present to the world around us will be seen or heard. There is nothing that can be done in solitude to yourself. You can do it intentionally or negligently, either way, if you have publicly claimed to be a follower of Christ, you are giving representation. What are you showing others? What are you speaking to others? Is the example you are setting in the little parts of your life glorifying to God in victory and failure?

Few things are more deceptive than a good outward appearance. Go to church? Check. Know some scriptures? Check. Pray at meals? Check. Yet, we can do all of these things (and more) and still split hell wide open. Jesus taught us that the measure God looks upon is found in the place nobody else can see: the secret place. It's what we do in secret that God is paying special attention to. It is what we do in secret that defines who you really are. What is the value of a silver coin? Jesus uses this analogy to speak of your value. Yes, you have value. And not just any value, but value to God. You matter to God. But what does that mean? How could I, or anyone else, possibly say without hesitation that your life matters to God? Is there anything that you have done, or that has happened to you, that has decreased your value to God? Religious leaders ere constantly criticizing Jesus for his relationships with sinners. In response, Jesus gives a parable designed to teach them about the hypocritical attitude that was poisoning their own hearts. The Lord turned the tables and began to explain what needed to change in their lives. It would seem unthinkable that anyone would turn away an invitation to eat at the king's table. What could possibly be more important? But what if that invitation was more than an invitation to a meal with the king? What if the invitation was one that redeemed a man from hell and gave him eternal life? What excuses could possibly be justified for refusing such an invitation? In this sermon Pastor Joplin examines Jesus's parable of the great banquet from Luke chapter 14.

Without proper strategy it is nearly impossible to win a war. And considering the enemy that we face is Satan, it may be impossible to win without proper strategy. Maybe a Christian can survive through life, making it to Heaven "by the skin of their teeth." But make no mistake about it - that a man is not winning the war that rages around him. We must see the great need of the hour - that God would train our hands for war.
